While pond turtles rest in their winter slumber, we’re wrapping up the year by summarizing our achievements and planning new activities that await us with the arrival of spring!
To bring some colour and warmth to the holiday season, we’re sharing a dedicated colouring book inspired by our pond turtle KORNJAČA SPORNJAČA and The Tale of the Turtles of Kraljevac, written and narrated by actress Marijana Andrić!
Thanks to your support, our first crowdfunding campaign, KORNJAČA SPORNJAČA, was successfully completed! We are also grateful for the joint efforts and dedication of the manager of the Protected Nature Reserve “Kraljevac” in Deliblato – Udruženje ribolovaca Deliblato, the team of herpetologists – researchers from the Faculty of Biology in Belgrade, and collaboration with the Belgrade Open School.
The campaign helped secure funds for equipment that will aid in researching and protecting European pond turtles (Emys orbicularis) in this protected area—but this is just the beginning!
As previously announced, in the spring of 2025, we will begin tracking gravid female turtles with GPS locators. These devices will help scientists monitor their movements, identify critical areas, and improve conservation measures within the Special Nature Reserve “Kraljevac” Deliblato. The collected data will provide valuable insights into the needs of this strictly protected species and contribute to its long-term survival.
