Nature is facing growing pressures, from climate change and biodiversity loss to land degradation and the deterioration of water ecosystems. Nature restoration is one of the key responses to these challenges, aiming to help damaged ecosystems recover and regain the functions that are essential for people and the environment.
Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS) presents a new online course, “Nature Restoration”, offering an opportunity to gain foundational knowledge of the concepts, policies and practical approaches involved in restoring natural ecosystems.
The course is designed for anyone who wants to better understand why nature restoration matters, how the European framework for nature protection and restoration is evolving, and how citizens, organisations and institutions can contribute to protecting and enhancing natural values.
What will you learn?
The course consists of three lessons covering key topics and introducing participants to the fundamental principles of nature restoration, European policies and examples of good practice.
The lessons are available as presentations and video lectures, allowing participants to learn flexibly and at their own pace.
You will explore the concept of nature restoration and the reasons why it has become one of the key priorities of European environmental policy.
You will also learn how key European legal instruments, including the Birds, Habitats, Water Framework and Floods Directives, as well as the new Nature Restoration Regulation, contribute to protecting existing natural values, preventing further deterioration and restoring degraded ecosystems.
Through practical examples, you will discover what makes a successful nature restoration initiative, from a sound scientific basis and long-term monitoring of results to social acceptance and the benefits it brings to both nature and people.
Learn at your own pace and discover how you can contribute to nature restoration. The “Nature Restoration” course is free and available on the YRS e-learning platform.
Please note that course is available in Serbian language.
